Enhancement Award

Landscape Architects Honored by FHWA

INDIANAPOLIS, IN

The Downtown Corridor Improvement Project in the Wholesale District of Indianapolis, Indiana was recently declared "One of America's Best Enhancement Projects" at the National Transportation Enhancements Conference. In addition, the project was also honored by the Federal Highway Administration 1997 Environmental Excellence Award in the category of "Community Cohesion." The multidisciplinary team of Ratio Architects and MSE Corporation engineers assisted the City of Indianapolis with improvements to the streets surrounding Circle Centre Mall in the historic district.

Ratio Landscape Architects, led by Principle Kenneth Boyce, ASLA, worked to revitalize the district with streetscape improvements and retail development programs while maintaining historical accuracy. The award-winning design effort which has been cited as an "exemplary ISTEA-funded effort"-- was led by the Landscape Architect, who "led the conversations about setting new paradigms for streetscapes, which are focused upon holistic issues of the three dimensional realities of the public right of way in an urban context."
