The University of Wisconsin-Madison will offer their acclaimed short course, Soil Engineering for Non-Soil Engineers and Technicians in Sunnyvale, Calif., Nov. 10-11. Those in attendance will receive a working knowledge of soil behavior and the basic concepts of soil engineering.
Courses have been designed to teach non-soil engineers, geologists and earth scientists, construction personnel, public works professionals, technicians and inspectors, architects and landscape architects, industry tech/sales representatives, and others a basic, non-mathematical, practical course in which to solve soil problems and better understand soil behavior.
The Soil Engineering course will teach: basic soil concepts, the importance of water in soils, effective stress and shear strength, horizontal and vertical stresses, lateral pressures on walls and trenches, how soils compress, compaction and mechanical stabilization, construction of earthworks, slope stability and landslides, borings and soil reports, and geosynthetically reinforced soils.
