Clean Scapes landscaping of Austin, Texas recently spent thousands of dollars to convert their mower fleet to run off of propane, which local media claims costs 30 to 50 percent less per gallon than diesel fuel.
McCoy?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s Lawn performed the conversion for Clean Scapes. Several manufacturers also offer propane models, including Ferris and Dixie Choppers.
The equipment might also qualify for a tax credit in the near future, pending legislation by several members of congress. Landscape contractors might also be able to use propane and other alternative energy equipment as a sales tool in areas where ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????going green?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? is highly popular with clients.
However, note that local and seasonal fluctuations in the prices of various fuel options combined with local client demographics and legislation means the profitability of this approach will need to be carefully examined on an individual basis.
