Fungicide proves beneficial to protecting golf courses nationwide

MARYSVILLE, OHIO

For golf course superintendents, or any turf care manager for that matter, Gray Leaf Spot (Pyricularia grisea) has been a problem, killing off one of the most commonly used types of turf grass on golf courses nationwide. The Scotts Company announced recently its Fungo 50 and Fungo Flo sprayable fungicide have been useful in fighting and preventing Gray Leaf Spot.

"Gray Leaf Spot is a serious concern for turf managers in parts of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and the Midwest," noted Dr. Karen Kackley of Scotts Professional Technical Services.

Gray Leaf Spot is a disease common of perennial ryegrass (PRG), one of the most widely grown grasses on golf courses today. Severe infections can result in total loss of PRG in fairways and the rough. Tall fescue grasses and PRG lawns are also threatened by the disease.

Fungo 50 and Fungo Flo are broad spectrum fungicides and are widely used by landscape maintenance professionals to protect ornamental plants, ornamental greenhouse materials and nursery crops. The active ingredient in both products, Thiophanate-methyl, has been shown to be effective against combating Gray Leaf Spot.
