The "Brick Garden" at the Triangle Brick headquarters in Durham, N.C. showcases the design work of the landscape architectural firm Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, which specializing in academic and cultural arts projects. The firm, with offices in Raleigh and Asheville, received a certificate of recognition from the North Carolina chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (NCASLA) for the garden design.
The buildings and the Brick Garden were designed to showcase Triangle Brick's product line and to complement one another. Spinning brick panels in the garden provide customers visiting the site an opportunity to view the company's offerings in a variety of daylight conditions. The movement also provides ever-shifting views of the garden.
"Seldom does an opportunity to design a truly unique landscape feature present itself," said Jeffrey Lee, FAIA, lead designer for the project, which included an 18,000-square-foot building. The site itself evolved from a clay pit and brick manufacturing facility to Triangle Brick's corporate headquarters and design center.
The garden also features trees native to North Carolina, including river birch, maple, and crepe myrtle – each of which provides texture and color as the garden matures.
The award was presented in October, during the NCASLA's 2012 Fall Conference at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
