The City of North Charleston and the South Carolina DOT (SCDOT) have joined forces to coordinate tree plantings along public roadways as part of a city-pride campaign to improve environmental quality. SCDOT Public Works spokesman Bill Gore confirms that, as ISTEA and Small Business Association funds become increasingly difficult to obtain, the National Tree Trust's America's Treeways program fills in the gap by funding the use of containerized seedlings to beautify roadside grassed medians.
