Enporion, a Tampa-based company, has come up with software to track which trees and bushes need to be trimmed and when they need trimming.
The program, electronic Vegetation Management System (eVMS) was designed to prevent tree limbs from coming into contact with power lines ?EUR??,,????'?????<???(R) the main cause of power outages.
What the software does, according to George Gordon, Enporion chief executive, is let utilities create a database of the type of vegetation near power lines. The information will then be collected by crews in the field. The program also includes climatic information and data on the growth rate of trees.
