Tom Gentile, 81, passed away on January 2, 2024, unexpectedly in Murrieta, California

Tom Gentile, an irrigation industry member, passed away in Murrieta, California, on January 2, 2024, unexpectedly. He was 81.

He began his irrigation industry career as a representative for Griswold Controls in the early 1980s. Soon thereafter, he started his own company, Gentile & Associates, in 1986. He was an active member of various associations including, The Green Industry Hall of Fame and the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) where he was awarded the Winner of the Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

According to the ASIC, he was selected to receive this distinguished award because of his work in the industry. For example, in the 90s, Gentile helped establish the use of subsurface drip tubing. Conversely, Gentile was inducted into the Green Industry Hall of Fame in 2015 for his dedication and nearly 40 years working as a manufacturers' representative, where his team still represents 14 high-quality landscape and irrigation product lines.

Thomas Michael Gentile was born in 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa, he moved to Southern California with his family at the age of ten. He attended St. Peter Chanel Seminary in San Rafael, California for high school. He is survived by wife, Kaye Gentile, daughter, Kimberly Arnold-Robinson and Andriana Sweeny, son, Nick Gentile, son-in-law, Craig Robinson, and grandchildren.
