The Texas Nursery & Landscape Association (TNLA) put on a Texas-style expo at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas from Friday, August 17th to Sunday, August 19th. Education sessions began on Thursday, August 16th and continued until the last day of the show.
TNLA's expo is one of the largest landscape and nursery conferences and caters largely to nurseries, landscape professionals and gardeners. Exhibitors included an abundance of nurseries, including tree farms and growers, along with plant material. Other exhibitors included pottery, fountains, soil, pesticides, pest removal, plant food/nutrition, equipment, hardscape products, outdoor lighting, and holiday lighting (an add-on service for many landscape businesses).
Another important contributor of the show was the associations, which serve as a large resource in many different areas. Associations that supported the 2012 TNLA Expo included the Irrigation Association (IA), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), National Association of Professional Women in Landscape (NAPWL) and the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS).
Several universities were also present including, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Louisiana State University, and Texas Tech University. These universities offer programs relating to the landscape professional including horticulture, plant and soil science, turfgrass science and more.
Other features of the show included a bookstore stocked with gardening and insect books; an outdoor kitchen display by various vendors; a demonstration stage where attendees had the chance to watch various presentations, such as ''Water Restrictions: Cause, Effect, and Aftermath'', ''Propane Powered Equipment'', and ''Soil Testing for Texas''; giveaways, on the Sunday, the last day of the show one lucky attendee won $7,500 in cash.
TNLA members also attended several private events over the course of four days, including the TNLA Awards Dinner, TNLA PAC Trustee Meeting, and Past Chairs Lunch.
