Register now for Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Gardens webinar with Kathryn Dressendorfer and Kai Craig to learn more about how to create natural solutions to reduce polluted runoff and support resilient coastlines.

Webinar Description:
Ocean Friendly Gardens is the Surfrider Foundation's sustainable landscaping and education program that provides beautiful, inexpensive, and natural solutions to reduce polluted runoff and to support resilient coasts. The OFG program centers around rainwater retention, building biodiversity, and supporting climate resilience through landscape design.

Surfrider's Southern California program coordinator, Kathryn Dressendorfer, will be giving an overview of the program and its goals to support biodiversity, water capture, and climate resilience.

Long Beach program leader, Kai Craig, is a landscape designer, contractor, and longtime Surfrider volunteer. He will be discussing site contouring strategies and native plant selection using examples from Ocean Friendly Gardens designed and built by his landscape firm, California Eco Design.

Kai Craig, Kathryn Dressendorfer
Kathryn Dressendorfer is the Southern California Ocean Friendly Gardens Coordinator for the Surfrider Foundation. She holds a B.S. in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz, and became passionate about native plants while working in wetland restoration. She is currently helping to facilitate the volunteer led installation of OFG demonstration gardens in the Long Beach area.
Kai Craig holds a B.S. from UC Berkeley in Conservation and Resource Studies, with a focus on coastal ecology. He received his Masters of Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona. He has worked for the City of Los Angeles' Watershed Protection Division. In 2017 Kai was named to the Los Angeles Expert Biodiversity Council and Committee Chair of the Long Beach Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Gardens Program. Kai is a Watershed Wise Landscape Professional (WWLP), recognized as an U.S. EPA WaterSense labeled Professional Certification for Irrigation System Auditors. His landscape firm, California Eco Design, prioritizes thoughtful design strategies and sustainable practices. He is a long time Surfrider volunteer and currently the Long Beach Chapter's Local OFG program leader, overseeing local project designs and installation.

2. How to select California native plants for appropriate hydro-zones.
3. The purpose of the Surfrider Foundations Ocean Friendly Gardens Program and how to get involved.
