Third-Quarter Survey Numbers down for Landscape Architects

?EUR??,,????'??International projects, particularly in the Middle East and Pacific Rim, are strong and an expanding source of work for many firms,?EUR??,,????'?? commented ASLA CEO Nancy Somerville.


The 2008 third-quarter survey conducted by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) found 44 percent of the 267 responding landscape architecture offices reported average or above billable hours. That is a 12 percent decline from the second quarter survey number.

The key survey stats also included inquiries and hiring plans.

-Just under 43 percent of the firms reported average or above inquiries for the third quarter, which is seven percent down from the second quarter survey.

-Only one in four firms plan to augment staff in the fourth quarter, down from 29 percent in the second quarter survey.

The ASLA 2008 third-quarter national survey was conducted Sept. 12-30.

She acknowledged no surprise the numbers were down in the third quarter survey, given the economic turmoil.
