Uptown District, Dallas by Linda Tycher & Associates
The Taylor is a 309-unit, 16-story, multifamily, urban infill project located in the popular Uptown District of Dallas, Texas. The project was developed by StreetLights Residential, which was founded by Doug Chesnut and Tom Bakewell in 2011 and currently has projects in Texas, California, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Arizona. As StreetLights Residential's first project, The Taylor was focused on a community-driven design approach to New Urbanism. This development provides many outdoor amenities including a sky terrace, an outdoor kitchen and bar area, lounge seating, flat screen TV's, fire pit, and a luxurious multi-level pool. The pool, being the hub of the project, was created for rest and relaxation. Featuring over 5,000 square feet of limestone and Ipe wood pool deck, the pool area is filled with a variety of different gathering spaces. Options included quiet lounging under the trellis, basking in the sun on the tanning ledge, and multiple conversation groupings near 5 waterfalls. On the weekends or evenings, residents can warm up the grill and have some friends over to dine pool side. At night the soft glowing lights of the pools create a wonderful ambiance. An infinity edge water feature spills from the upper pool to the lower. Both pools are accented with Florida water walls clad in stone tile. This subtle splashing helps soften the noise from the adjacent street. The infinity edge, along with the water walls are all internally illuminated. This provides dramatic highlights at all of the water features that contrasts nicely with the soft glow of the pools. The long gentle curve of the upper pool is accented by the adjacent cantilevered trellis. Working off the existing street geometry, this upper pool nestles into the surrounding development and streetscape. The trellis is equipped with directional accents lights at the top of each column and LED lighting highlights the water curtain as it spills 9' from the top of the trellis down into the pool. The trellis columns are clad with dense limestone to match the stone pool deck and the trellis shade structure is constructed using a combination of steel and Ipe wood. The trellis spans the length of the upper pool and provides needed escape from the hot Texas sun.
