We've noted, a bit tongue in cheek, the several recent movies that had landscape architect characters. Call it a mini-trend. We don't necessarily place much significance in this phenomenon, but it can't hurt, especially if one of these characters somewhere along the line can get across to the public at large that LAs are skilled, knowledgeable and highly educated designers and planners.
Anyway, LAs are now breaking into sitcoms. Beginning Oct. 5 (8:30 p.m., ABC) “Notes from the Underbelly” airs. Based on the eponymous novel by Risa Green, the show features a career couple??"Lauren, a counselor at a ritzy prep-school, married to Andrew, a landscape architect. The gist is the young woman isn't ready for childbearing (doesn't want to give up vodka martinis for nine months), but the LA is ready to start a family. That conflict, her subsequent pregnancy and the irreverent asides from Lauren's somewhat jaded gal pal are grist for the ensuing hilarity??"or so the sponsors hope. Stay tuned.
