The Greening of America's Streets: What Landscape Architects Have Known All Along The Surface Transportation Policy Project (STPP) has released a new report for distribution entitled, "Green Streets: ISTEA and the Greening of Transportation Policy in the United States." According to the report-- perhaps no surprise to practicing Landscape Architects-- transportation is the leading source of overall air pollution, a primary consumer of wetlands, farm lands, and open space, and a major source of solid waste, water pollution, and natural resource consumption. Green Streets details how the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) has promoted environmental protection, and calls for the preservation and improvement of ISTEA's environmental provisions. Copies of Green Streets: ISTEA and the Greening of Transportation Policy in the United States are available for $12 from Sheron Jones at STPP at 202-974-5139, or via e-mail at sejones@transact.org.
