You know, there is something I have been wondering about for a long time- where do they find these products they're advertising on television late at night?
They've got exercise devices, that lady who sells those kitchen appliances and utensils (Not the Foreman Grill though, that thing really works!) and my favorite, the hair removal infomercials. I mean, here I am on a Sunday night trying to watch a little rodeo on television and I have to wade through channel after channel of these crazy products.
I was beginning to think they didn't make any manly commercials anymore. But then I saw it; the "piece de resistance." Never in my life have I been so moved by a commercial.
I'm talking about the DR® Trimmer/Mower. When I saw this machine chewing through overgrown weeds, thick brush and small trees, I have to say I was a little curious. So I logged on to the internet (yeah, we have phone lines in the country) to find out a little more. Let me tell you what I learned.
But Wait, There's More...
Let me start where I always do- with the horsepower. If you are looking for power, look at the commercial model and you will see a 6.75 HP Kawasaki Commercial, 4-cycle, FC150V Overhead Valve engine offering 7.9 ft. lbs. of torque. (Excuse me while I catch my breath.) Okay, that sounds good, but what can it do?
I'll tell you what it can do. The Trimmer/Mower can cut a 21-inch to 24-inch wide path using either a 130-mil. or 155-mil. cord. That's what it can do. Try spinning a cord that thick in a hand-held trimmer. In the words of the first President Bush, "Not gonna do it."
If you are looking for protection, the folks at DR® offer a couple features. Two guards, a horizontal debris guard and a rubber stone guard, help prevent debris from getting airborne and rocks from impaling your lower extremities. Granted, it's not a protective rodeo vest, but if you need that kind of protection when you are landscaping, I'd say it's time to find a new line of work.
The Trimmer/Mower also allows you to adjust the trimming height anywhere from 1.5 inches to about 4 inches. If you are looking to do a little tree trimming, attach the Beaver Blade® and you can cut trees up to 5-inches in diameter.
For the modest men out there who don't like to show off their muscles, you're in luck. The machine offers an optional turn-key electric starter. The 12-volt starting system comes with a sealed onboard battery, a 12-volt starter motor, a direct current alternator to recharge the battery, a removable key and a backup recoil starter.
Parallel Trimming Action (PTA) is also a nice feature. This means that the trimmer head can be extended beyond the wheelbase by swinging the handlebars from one side to another. Add this to its low profile design and you will be trimming under fences and bushes in no time.
Hope the neighbor's dog isn't standing too close to the fence. Just in case Fluffy is close by, the machine offers a safety brake that stops the cords from turning when the controls are released but leaves the engine running. And in the rare case you should run into a problem with your trimmer, DR® offers a two-year engine warranty for commercial users.
All I can say is, "fire up the grill," cause I'm having fish for dinner- that overgrown fishing hole will be a lot easier to get to now.
