Restrictions on outdoor watering hit Texas cities and towns hard in 2011 — the state's driest year on record — and with another La Nina weather pattern, those limitations will only increase in severity without ample rainfall.
One option is for landscape contractors to convert their clients' yards to into ''wildscapes'' with colorful native plants, shrubs and trees that use less water.
The ''kit'' doesn?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t advise remaking the yard overnight. Landscape contractors should start small, it says, creating a wildscape in one part of the yard and adding to it as weather and finances permit.
Perennials are ideal in wildscapes, and newly planted native trees will need extra water at first. Avoid water-hogging grasses. Insterested contractor can find the kit at: https://www.texasthestateofwater.org.
