Texas Annual Convention First ever Kay Tiller Chapter Service Award Presented Dallas, TX On Saturday, April 15, the Texas Chapter of the ASLA held their annual Convention in Dallas. Among the seminars and discussion panels, numerous Landscape Architects were recognized for their Chapter involvement and extraordinary work on projects around the state. Four individuals were recognized for their service and dedication to the Texas Chapter. The Distinguished Member Award was presented to Earl Broussard, ASLA, the Community Service Award went to Jennifer DeGraff, ASLA, and Pete Jamieson, ASLA, received the Environmental Stewardship Award. On the suggestion of Chapter Trustee, David Retzsch, ASLA, the Chapter Service Award was renamed in honor of Kay Tiller who died on May 2, 1999. Tiller was an active member of the Texas Chapter and faithfully attended the regional meetings and national meetings for nearly 20 years. (see Tiller Memorial in Sept 1999 issue) Ann McGinnes, ASLA, was honored as the first recipient of the Kay Tiller Chapter Service Award. McGinnes said she had many opportunities to work with Kay over the years. "Kay had a real volunteer ethic and a desire to help the profession," she explained. Numerous professional awards were also presented at the regional meeting. Twenty-three awards were presented to the following companies: Office of James Burnett; McDugald - Steele; TBG Partners; Talley Associates; SWA Group; City of Irving/Parks & Rec. Dept.; City of San Antonio; Clark Condon; Schrickel, Rollins and Associates; Carter + Burgess; Mesa Design Group; RTKL Associates, Inc.; and Page Southerland Page. The Classic Award was presented to the SWA Group for their work on Williams Square in Irving, Texas.
