Washington, D.C.?EUR"The American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA) recently awarded Texas A&M Professor Dr. Fred Davies, Jr., its Norman Jay Colman Award for his nursery research contributions during the Researchers?EUR(TM) Luncheon & Awards Presentation at the Southern Nursery Association Convention & Trade Show. The ANLA Norman Jay Colman award, given annually, recognizes an individual who has made noteworthy contributions to nursery industry research. Davies has excelled in the areas of the physiology of mycorrhizal enhancement of plant drought and nutrient stress resistance, biofertilizers, ornamental horticulture production systems, temperature stress in container plants, water relations and nursery crop water use efficiency. Davies has developed an internationally recognized reputation in a wide range of ornamental horticultural subjects. He has ongoing projects in Mexico and Peru and has traveled the world evaluating production centers in Latin America, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Japan. Davies has been an invited speaker to give presentation in Mexico, Peru, China, Italy, Canada, Spain, France, England, Israel, and India. Davies has also authored more than 65 refereed research articles, 49 industry-related articles and has given more than 23 talks at state, national and international symposia on nursery crops.
