WASHINGTON ?EUR??,,????'??+ The Senate recently voted 86-11 to create a federal terrorism insurance program that would shield the insurance industry from up to $100 billion in claims in the case of future attacks. President Bush hopes this bill will help stimulate the economy and create thousands of jobs by freeing up construction projects. Under the bill, the government would pay 90 percent of the claims arising from a terrorist attack if the total losses are more than $10 billion. The Associated General Contractors of America was been very involved in the process of getting this bill passed. Earlier this year AGC President, Larry C. Gaskins participated in an economic forum in Waco, Tex. and spoke on the importance of such insurance. AGC has also worked closely with the Bush Administration on this issue. Stephen E. Sandherr, chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America was very pleased with the passage of the terrorism insurance legislation. ?EUR??,,????'??AGC applauds the Bush Administration for its leadership in getting this important legislation passed when thousands of construction related jobs were on the line,?EUR??,,????'?? Sandherr said in the statement. ?EUR??,,????'??The lack of affordable terrorism insurance left too many of the nation?EUR??,,????'???s buildings and public spaces uncovered. It has also contributed to the downturn in the nation?EUR??,,????'???s economy by slowing or cancelling billions of dollars worth of construction projects. With the final passage of this piece of legislation, the construction industry will be poised to aid n the nation?EUR??,,????'???s economic recovery providing jobs and securing America?EUR??,,????'???s future.?EUR??,,????'??
