NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee General Assembly is considering two bills, HB 2995 and SB 3051, that restructure the occupational privilege tax curently imposed on many professions including Landscape Architects. The current tax is a flat $200, but the bill, if passed, would set the rate at a one percent income tax, not to exceed $300, even if someone is employed in two different licensed professions. The bill would exempt full-time federal, state, county or municipal employees from the tax. At the time LASN went to press, SB 3051 was under consideration by the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, while HB 2995 has not yet been scheduled for a hearing by the House Finance Committee.
