Nashville?EUR??,,????'???s downtown Public Square has won an international “green roof” award for its five-level subterranean parking garage underneath the city courthouse. The award was given by The Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, which evaluated the design on its ?EUR??,,????'??creativity and effectiveness.?EUR??,,????'?? Two Nashville-based design firms, Hawkins Partners, Inc., a landscape architecture firm and Tuck Hinton Architects, shared the award. The green roof captures rainwater in a 57,000-gallon, below-grade tank. The rainwater is then filtered and recycled to irrigate more than 40 species of plants in the park, 81 percent of which are native to the Southeast region and 63 percent are native to Middle Tennessee. “The Nashville Public Square is a landmark project for the city of Nashville from a civic and sustainable perspective,” said Steven Peck, president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. “This project raises the international bar for municipal green roofs.” Source: Nashville Business Journal
