Tempests in Tempe Revive Tree Program




ABOVE & BELOW:On Oct. 25, 2008 volunteers from GE Money, a Tempe company, helped replant 19 trees at the Tempe Center for the Arts: 15 desert museum palo verdes and three thornless mesquite trees, all 24-inch box trees.

Temperate Tempe, Ariz. lies just southeast of Phoenix. The mostly flat desert lands are at 1,150 feet of elevation. The local geography includes the Salt River to the north and Tempe Buttes, a volcanic rise that can be seen from the stadium of Arizona State University.

Aug. 29, 2008 brought heavy winds and rain to Tempe.

Uprooting of trees and broken branches blocked streets and caused damage to roofs and cars. During Tempe?EUR??,,????'?????<

The good news was the damaged trees allowed locals to stock the woodpile for the upcoming winter months.

Tempe is grateful to GE Money for stepping up to begin replanting every tree lost in the storms. By partnering with the Trees for Tempe program, GE Money is setting a standard it would like to see matched by other Tempe businesses.
