Teco-Edg™ Edge Restraint

Containing the Living Roof Gardens

Teco-Edg is the first of its kind and unlike any other edging available; a true green alternative. It is made of recycled PVC strengthened by impact modifier and UV inhibitor, and is engineered to last the lifetime of any project. Its sturdy and proven L-Shaped design allows for multiple installation options.

Oly-Ola Edging's Teco-Edg™ was recently installed on two uniquely-designed living roof garden planters that top bus shelters in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood. This innovative 6-inch high recycled L-shaped edge restraint comes with specially-engineered drainage slots. These living roof garden installations are a part of the Fairmount Line Bus Shelter Living Roof Initiative. The partnership exists between the Fairmount/Indigo Line CDC Collaborative and Land Escapes Design Inc. The edging product is used to contain the roof garden plants that include several inches of lightweight roof media and drought-tolerant plants.

Each roof is designed to retain over 24 gallons of water.
Funding for this project was provided by an Environmental Protection Agency Healthy Communities Grant that is installing living roofs with native plant species on seven Boston bus shelters this year.

Land Escapes Design chose Teco-Edg to contain the living roof gardens because of its 6 inch height and heavy-duty construction. "Our team at Land Escapes Design try to ensure that every product and method utilized in our projects is as environmentally responsible as we are," said Christina Donovan, company president. "Additionally, we want to engage and support other female owned and minority owned businesses."

Teco-Edg is specially designed for roof garden, permeable paver and gravel pathway installations. It is durable and easy-to-install either under or outside pavers or gravel. Available in rigid or flexible pieces, the sturdy, 6 x 6-inch, L-shaped profile of the restraint comes with multi-purpose stake holes.

Land Escapes Design specializes in bringing green infrastructure concepts planning into all facets of landscape design, water features, rain harvesting systems and rain gardens, living wall and living roof systems. As a part of the project, the company provided community workshops, including outreach to youth from YouthBuild Boston and the Hyde Park Green Team Youth Jobs and Environmental Education Program to illustrate these new and exciting green infrastructure concepts.
