SWA Receives ASLA 2005 National Firm Award

SWA also received the ASLA 2005 Award of Excellence for the landscape architecture of Hermann Park, Houston, ASLA's top design award.


July 5, 2005—The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has named SWA Group the 2005 recipient of its national Landscape Architecture Firm award, the highest honor ASLA can confer on a landscape architecture firm. Only two other firms have previously received this award.

SWA has offices in California (San Francisco, Sausalito, Laguna Beach, with a L.A. office opening this Sept.), Texas (Houston, Dallas) and Shanghai. Over the last 40 years SWA has worked in 47 states and over 40 countries. Its projects have received over 450 awards.

SWA also received three other national ASLA awards this past week:

  • 1) 2005 ASLA Landmark award for the planning of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Marin County.
  • 2) 2005 Award of Excellence for the landscape architecture of Hermann Park, Houston.
  • 3) 2005 Community Service award to Kevin Shanley, president of SWA, for his pro-bono work on behalf of the bayous of Houston, award-winning plazas in Ft. Worth, Texas (a top regional icon), Kansas City, New York City and San Francisco.

The Houston office of SWA has been involved in almost every major initiative in downtown Houston over the past 20 years and involved in over 40 years of town planning with the Irvine Company in southern California. Among the firm’s other projects is the redevelopment of the Anaheim Resort District; master plan for the 90,000 acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area; 25 years of work with Stanford University; FED EX World Headquarters; Exxon Corporate Headquarters; downtown Lewis Street corridor, Las Vegas; redevelopment of the city of Hangzhou, part of Beijing’s financial district; and the creation of a new city in the Philippines known as Filinvest.
