Catherine Mahan, president of Mahan Rykiel Associates, will speak on creating sustainable healing environments as part of a panel selected to present at Healthcare Design '09, a leading conference on health and design in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 31 - Nov. 3.

The panel will present the case study of the Mary Catherine Bunting Center at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, where Mahan Rykiel designed a series of roof gardens and outdoor spaces to complement the mission of the new hospital.

Dealing with an urban hospital with limited available space to expand, the design team crafted a new building that embraced the nearby park, and featured a series of accessible roof gardens available to staff and patients as a retreat.
