SACRAMENTO, Calif. ?EUR??,,????'??? A survey commissioned by the California Landscape Contractors Association outlines the importance of a swimming pool measure to the state's landscape contractors. The measure, AB 341, responds to a 2002 written opinion from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) stating, ?EUR??,,????'??a C-27 landscaping contractor may not bid on swimming pools and/or spas.?EUR??,,????'?? The opinion came as a surprise to many CLCA members, who understood that a 1988 change in the C-27 license language allowed for landscape contractors to subcontract this work to swimming pool contractors. In addition to the 1988 change to C-27, the CLCA notes that the CSLB allows other specialty contractors to subcontract out work this is essential to a project. Earlier this year, CLCA member contractors who perform residential or commercial pool installations were randomly e-mailed a ?EUR??,,????'??Quick Survey.?EUR??,,????'?? Survey results included: ?EUR??,,????'???? 44 percent of the respondents made bids on swimming pools or spas. ?EUR??,,????'???? 83 percent of the contractors who bid on swimming pools or spas have a C-27 license only. ?EUR??,,????'???? The remaining 17 percent have an A license, a B license, or both. ?EUR??,,????'???? 93 percent of the contractors who hold a C-27 license only and who bid pools or spas subcontract the work to swimming pool contractors. Of all the landscape installation projects installed by survey respondents who hold a C-27 license only and who bid on pools or spas, 26 percent involve pools or spas.
