Homeowners Spend More On Landscape

According to a recent Gallup survey, seventeen million households in the U.S. spent $12.5 billion on professional landscaping and lawn care services in 1983. The number of homeowners using landscape professionals was up 29% over 1992. Of the total, $381 million was spent on landscape design, with an average of $424 per household.

The growth is attributed by the organization to the improved national economy, the upswing in home building, and the growing awareness of landscaping's environmental and economic benefits.

While this poll did not ask the installed dollar amount spent from landscape architectural plans, the ASLA is currently conducting a survey asking firms the total dollars spent on landscape architecture projects, programs, and activities in which they played a significant role.
