Structural Pergola Systems Q and A with the Experts

A Conversation with Vincent Ignatowicz, President & CEO
by Staff

Where are your pergolas most often featured?

Public parks, hotels, restaurants that feature outdoor dining, wedding venues, strip malls, the backyard and a whole lot of other places! Mostly in the Northeastern US. Pergolas are a great poolside shade application and similarly impactful at the entryway to a building or between stores. Areas of high sun exposure are often avoided on hot summer days and a pergola is designed to help combat that wherever it's built!

What are the benefits of featuring a pergola for your outdoor area?

The main reason is to extend the utilization of the space. Most people are only able to make full use of their patio, deck or outdoor entertainment spaces a small portion of the year. That time becomes even less when considering inclement weather, or summer days that are just too hot. Pergolas are meant to help minimize direct sun exposure and help make an outdoor space comfortable to use, to have it in use more often and for longer durations.
Seamless polycarbonate or solar panel roofs and fully mechanical closing louvers provide full shade coverage that can even keep you dry in periods of light rain. Mounting TVs, speakers and inlaying lights, allows you to enjoy your space later into the evening, and mounting heater systems allows you to enjoy your space
later into the season!

How have you diversified or adapted as a company to continue to grow successfully?

Exploring different ways to collaborate with innovative products and styles has been the main key. Stretched fabrics, solar panel roofs & integrated systems geared to promote vine growth, are just a few unique features we've implemented on some of our structures. Going beyond the structure and incorporating varying applications of added shade, has allowed us cater to a wider market and fulfill more orders in both the commercial and residential sectors.

What's next for SPS?

Refining products, reducing lead times, and establishing core components within our business to provide the best possible product and service. Most recently we've partnered with a newly formed aluminum pergola distributor, Vizor Shade Systems. With access to their line of aluminum products, including multiple stunning wood grain elements, mechanic louvered roof systems & more. As a company, we believe this industry will only continue to grow in both the commercial and residential markets and it's our plan to grow along with it. The way we see it is simple, we sell shade, and the sun's not going anywhere!
