The City of Homewood, Alabama, outside of Birmingham, was known for years for the section of its main street known as "The Curve." "The Curve" made traffic flow awkward and made it hard for the Homewood central business district to have a consistent pedestrian flow.

In 1991, the City of Homewood, together with the local business community, Kidd/Plosser/Sprague Architects, Inc., and Thomas L. Ray Consulting Engineer, Inc. set about redesigning Homewood's downtown business district to make it a pedestrian-friendly environment with a coherent traffic pattern.

Part of the plan called for the installation of completely new street furniture, including cast metal streetlights, lighting poles.

Working with TrimbleHouse Corporation of Norcross, Georgia, the City of Homewood brought about a transformation of their main street, from an inconsistently lit, unwelcoming environment, to what can now be described as a grand promenade.

Using tapered fluted cast aluminum poles and a signature turn-of-the-century acorn-style globe light, TrimbleHouse helped to create an animated, welcoming environment.

Homewood now boasts a rejuvinated central business core, with retail shops, bookstores, restaurants and coffeehouses, as well as plenty of parking and room for people to stroll and sit.

The reconfigured streets have brought a measure of traffic flow stability to Homewood, and the warm, welcoming glow of its new streetlighting invites visitors to come and enjoy the transformation.
