Stihl, Inc. announced that they are, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, recalling certain yard power tools due to concerns that defects with the fuel caps on those tools may lead to a risk of fire.

According to the recall notice, the levels of ethanol, aromatics or other additives in some gasoline sold in the United States may distort parts of the fuel cap, which could make the caps more difficult to install and/or remove. If a fuel cap is not properly installed and fuel spillage results, there is a risk of fire if an ignition source is present, which could result in a burn injury to the consumer.

As at the writing of this article, no injuries have been reported.

A representative for Stihl told Landscape Online that the toolless fuel caps subject to this recall can be identified by a letter molded on the underside of the cap. All caps marked with a letter A, B, C, or D are affected. The corrected caps will have the letter E molded on their underside.

These products were sold throughout the United States. To find out if your product and model number are included in this recall, visit the Stihl website.

If you determine that your product is affected, Stihl advises that you immediately discontinue use of it and take it to an authorized Stihl Dealer where a new fuel cap will be installed at no cost.

If you need to locate your nearest Stihl Dealer visit their website or contact their customer service at 1-800-467-8445.
