The Southern California Chapter of ASLA is accepting entries for the 2014 Quality of Life Awards, which celebrate professional excellence from firms, individuals, and agencies responsible for outstanding works of landscape architecture in Southern California and beyond. Submissions will be judged on: Quality of design Functionalism Relationship to context Overall relevance to the profession, the public, and the environment Promotes the enhancement of quality of life Environmental responsibility and sustainability Entries will be accepted for projects from ASLA Fellows, Members, Associates, or Affiliates; from other non-member landscape architects; public agencies and private developers with the endorsement of landscape architects connected with the submitted entry. Students enrolled in a college, university, or extension landscape architecture curriculum are eligible for Category VI, Student Work. Winners will be announced and exhibited at a celebration on the evening of Thursday, October 23 at the Historic Ebell Club, 290 Cerritos Ave., Long Beach, CA 90802. Three types of awards – Award of Excellence, Honor Award, and Merit Award, in six categories will be given. Categories are as follows: Design Planning & Analysis Research Communication Concepts, Ideas & Theories Student Work Public Stewardship This year you may submit your project descriptions, images, and image summaries online using Dropbox. The deadline to submit is Friday, August 29 by 5:00 pm (PST). Submissions may also be sent to: SOCAL ASLA, 360 East First Street, P.M.B. 371; Tustin, CA 92780.
