Submission by BMLA Landscape Architecture by Staff
BMLA Landscape Architecture and the City of Fontana collaborated creating South Fontana Park to emphasize and elaborate the city's focus to go beyond the limits of a traditional playground. The new South Fontana Park playground delivers fun challenges and thrills with swings, climbers, stairs, slides, and play opportunities for all abilities. The playground is designed with accessibility ramps and rubberized surfaces to provide access to kids of all abilities from toddlers to infants as well as parents and grandparents bringing children to the park for a fun time. Poured in place seat walls with gentle, undulating designs in the fencing enclose the playground in this open 18-acre site with multiple sport fields. Blue and green colors of fully accessible rubberized surfacing in concert with the colors of the playground equipment pay homage to the city of Fontana. Numerous sensory panels and learning walls aspire cognitive stimulation, encourage exploration, and create curiosity. Free standing musical instruments elevate the games to enable kids to generate their own rhythms and nurture their interests in music play. The musical sounds introduce another element to spark interaction among kids.
