COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE) was recently administered in Columbia, S.C. The full exam was given in June, and two sections of the exam will be given on Dec. 9-10, 2002. These sections include exam "C" Planning and Site Design and exam "E" Grading, Drainage and Storm Water Management. The deadline to register for the December exam is Sept. 30, 2002 and the cost is $200 for each section. Applications will be available in Aug. 15, 2002. In June, 43 candidates took the full exam in South Carolina. That number is down from the 50 candidates who took the exam last year. However, the high pass rate from last year may be a possible reason for the slight decrease. "We didn't have many people re-taking the exam since so many people passed it last year. So in lieu of the high pass rate from last year, we pretty much held steady," said Sherri Moorer, coordinator of the professional licensing program. The scores from the June exam will be available in September from the South Carolina Landscape Architect Registration Program. One week prior to the release of the official results, LARE candidates can also obtain their exam scores on the Web site of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Board (www.clarb.org). However, these early results are considered unofficial. For more information, please email moorer@dnr.state.sc.us.
