With $230,000 in emergency funding from NYC-based TIGER 21 and a donation of $40,000 in solar panels from Sharp Electronics, SOL, Inc., in conjunction with the Louisiana State Police, installed the first 30 solar-powered lighting systems at critically designated areas in and around New Orleans.
SOL employees Keith Bloomer and Danny Freiberger delivered and installed the first systems, working with Lt. Charles Dupuy of the Louisiana State Police. The police identified the first locations for the lights. Some will be used to light the camps housing state police from nine states around the country.

Yellow Freight transported the first shipment of systems at no cost and Tech 22 donated the ballasts. A second phase is bringing lights to areas of New Orleans and beyond which would otherwise be without lights for weeks and maybe months.
