Douglas Dynamics, a manufacturer of snow and ice control equipment, recently announced that an appellate court has affirmed a federal trial court judgment from 2014, which ruled in favor of the company after a competitor infringed its patents.

The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit this year affirmed the 2014 decision of the trial court in Douglas Dynamics LLC v. Buyers Products Co. awarding the plaintiff damages for the defendant's infringement. Previously, the same court ruled that the defendant, which offers its own line of snow removal equipment, cannot sell products that the courts found to infringe the plaintiff's patents.

"Our company has always maintained an exceptional commitment to engineering and we consider our intellectual property a valuable asset which we will diligently defend," explains Jim Janik, chairman, president and CEO of the plaintiff company. "We are pleased the decision was upheld and remain committed to consistently producing the most innovative, highest quality and most reliable attachments and equipment on the market."

His company's products include snow and ice management attachments for the commercial market sold under the FISHER®, SnowEx® and WESTERN® brands, snow and ice management attachments and customized truck equipment solutions for the municipal market sold under the Henderson® brand, turf care equipment sold under the TurfEx® brand, and industrial maintenance equipment sold under the SweepEx® brand.
