Sensible use of leaf blowers can help limit opposition in your town.

Leaf Blower Bans Continue
Some cities ban them outright, some restrict hours of use, some put a sound-level limit on them, many, like Coral Gables, Fla, are currently considering bans, and there are groups throughout the country working to duplicate these successful efforts:

Gasoline-powered leaf blowers in Evanston, Ill,. can only be used four months out the year and can not be louder than 65 decibels.

The city of South Miami has passed new regulations that limit the use of noise producing landscape equipment in residential areas.

Dozens of California cities, including Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica have enacted bans or severe restrictions on leaf blowers.

In Cambridge, Mass., personal use of leaf blowers is heavily restricted but commercial use is prohibited unless an exemption from the city manager is obtained.

Yonkers N.Y. has an annual ban that is in effect June 1 through September 30.

ETHANOL
Maine lawmakers have approved a bill prohibiting the sale of corn-based ethanol but the ban will only commence once 10 other states with a combined population of 30 million pass similar bills.

The U.S. Supreme Court elected not to hear a lawsuit brought by group of trade organizations that challenged the Environmental Protection Agency's clearance of a 15-percent-ethanol fuel blend.

Recent legislation proposed in the U.S. Senate would repeal the renewable fuel mandate for Americans.
