The SITES Initiative Reveals New Project, SITES for Existing Landscapes by Staff
The Sustainable SITES Initiative, run by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), has revealed a new pilot project called SITES for Existing Landscapes. The project will function exactly as it sounds; the current SITES Certification is only applicable if the project being certified is new. The new SITES for Existing Landscapes project, however, allows for projects like parks, school campuses, streetscapes, and all other varieties of landscapes to be certified in their preexisting states, as long as they meet SITES criteria. Being that this is a pilot program, part of the project is to determine how to appropriately rate existing projects, when compared to the current system. As a result, the final version of the SITES Existing Landscape project will be announced following the feedback from the preliminary projects.
