Pairing creative design with functional solutions comes from intentional collaboration. At Site Resources, Inc., Landscape Architects and civil engineers work hand-in-hand to create exceptional places for people to live and play. Their approach to site design balances ecological conservation with user experience, fitting the design into the landscape rather than simply shaping a site to accommodate a program. Their logo is a graphic depiction of balancing form and function, celebrating the shared space where great things happen. Site Resources comprises three Principals and 12 Landscape Architects, with a total of 29 employees.

A: Set in soft contrast to the brutalist architecture of the adjoining Library & Gallery, the pond and promenade at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County has become a campus destination. Centrally located, this oasis is surrounded by walkways that gather students from all corners of the campus. The pond's natural edges, lush with aquatic and riparian plantings, are dotted with boulders and informal lawn space, providing casual seating. The promenade formally contrasts to this natural setting with a life-sized, interactive chessboard and stepped plaza edges that encourage visitors to engage with the water.

B: Sitting prominently above the
intersection of Pine Street and West Baltimore, this urban plaza serves as the unifying commons for the UMB Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, and Dentistry. The plaza pays homage to the city's grid-like geometry while concentrically curving paver bands carve graceful arcs across the rectilinear space, reflecting the School of Medicine's architecture. The striking, three-story-high, stainless-steel sculpture stands as an iconic showpiece for this civic space while the grand staircase, flanked by soft wisps of colorful plantings, elevates the plaza above the street.

C: At several feet below street level, the garden at Green Spring Station Pavilion III provides quiet sanctuary for this Johns Hopkins outpatient cancer treatment facility. The built-in fountain and classic architectural detailing combine with soft foliage to create a peaceful oasis to be enjoyed outdoors as much as viewed from within. Built-in benches and moveable furniture combine with lush greenery to provide a range of spaces for patients and family members to reflect, converse, and consult with medical staff.

Troy Park Regional Sports Complex, Elkridge, Maryland

D: This 101-acre sports complex is a tournament destination for soccer, lacrosse, and quidditch teams. Master planned as a multi-sports park nearly two decades ago, development and construction continues into the future. The park offers lighted turf fields with bleachers and press boxes, custom-designed picnic pavilions, comfort stations, and concession buildings, as well as a playground and ample parking with bus accommodation. Walks and trails meander through meadow plantings and forest conservation areas while stormwater management systems mimic and augment these ecological restoration areas.
