Shota Residence, Huntington Harbour, California

The Shota Residence on Humboldt Island in Huntington Harbour, CA had an addition on their home and involved a new landscape in 2005.

Even though this residence received a Huntington Harbour award, a neighbor said their house looked better in the night with their outdoor lighting.

Dane S. Shota graduated in Horticulture at Cal Poly Pomona and is a Certified Arborist. For over 20 years Dane represented a major tree nursery that was in business over 100 years called Orange County Nursery, Inc. Since Dane provided large trees to many celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Ozzie Ozborne, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Hal Holbrook, Malcomn Smith and many more he knew large trees make a statement the landscape. Once you have a beautiful landscape, why hide it at night?

The Shota's landscape was designed by Andy DeYoung Landscape Architect in Long Beach, CA and installed by Gary Hart of Hartscape Co. Landscape, Certified Lighting specialist, Westminster, CA. Gary Hart said, "the lighting has to be subtle and not to be overdone". Dane knew as a Certified Arborist you cannot be a specialist in everything and needed to hire these professionals to achieve a great landscape while keeping everyone safe during planting as these large trees needed equipment to install.

Dane is also a Commercial Real Estate Broker and he says that plants in the nursery are considered personal property and when they are planted in the ground, they are considered Real Estate. They take pride showing their home in the day and night thanks to Gary's landscape lighting.

Most of the incandescent landscape lights have been replaced by LED lights. The torch lights in the planter are still incandescent DC lights. The lighting Gary installed in 2005 were Malibu lights and now Gary Hart offers higher end choices of decorative light fixtures. No matter if the lighting is inexpensive or expensive, get your landscape lit as it makes a difference!

The entry way chandelier lights are LED as well as the lighting above the garage. There is no cost for electricity since solar panels were installed 14 years ago.
The daylight photo was taken in 2009 when the Huntington Harbour Garden Club of the month was received. Their son Ryan Shota was praised for picking out the annual color for the color theme. Ryan is now a medical doctor doing his residency at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia.

Special thanks to Gary Hart, Certified Lighting specialist at Hartscape Co. achieving the Shota's landscape to pop out at night!
