According to new statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), new residential building permits for September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,553,000.

 

This number is 5.2 percent above the revised August rate of 1,476,000 and 8.1 percent above last year's September rate of 1,437,000. Single-family permits for September increased by 7.8 percent to a rate of 1,119,000 compared to August's revised estimate of 1,038,000.

Authorizations for units in buildings with five or more units is also up at a rate of 390,000 for September.
