The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) has released its Guideline for Security Lighting for People, Property, and Public Spaces. The guideline is for designing and implementing security lighting, but is also meant for contractors, lighting specifiers, security professionals, and homeowners.
The guidelines cover basic security principles, luminance requirements, and protocols for evaluating security lighting levels.
IESNA has also developed an online course, ?EUR??,,????'??Security Lighting from the Ground Up.?EUR??,,????'?? It is designed to be ?EUR??,,????'??effectively mastered over the average lunch break.?EUR??,,????'?? The course will enable users, no matter how basic their technical background, to employ the essential principles, equipment and applications necessary to plan and execute a security lighting system from the ground up. The course modules direct ways to improve security lighting applications and develop new systems for the reasonable protections of people and property. Topics in the course include: designing a plan; constructing visibility: luminance, uniformity, glare, zones; equipment choices: light sources, luminaries, controls, maintenance; installation guideline for commercial, retail and residential applications, including parking lots and ATMS.
