“Something old, something new…” the saying begins. The phrase can be applied to the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209. It’s the second oldest university in the English-speaking world. Well, that’s old, all right. The something new was unveiled September 2009—14 bronze sculptures in the form of book stacks in front of the university library.
The bollardesque ?EUR??,,????'?????<?book?EUR??,,????'?????<? stacks have three designs, including four central columns of books that move to reveal the title of the work, ?EUR??,,????'?????<?Ex Libris.?EUR??,,????'?????<?
Ex Libris is the creation of Harry Gray, who works at the Carving Workshop in Cambridge.
Gray told the local media he hopes the sculptures will let people see the building in a new light.
