Schwarzenegger Appoints Scarborough, LA

SACRAMENTO, Calif.?EUR??,,????'??+ Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed Karen Scarborough, a landscape architect who owns a planning firm, undersecretary of resources. Scarborough, a Democrat, has helped shape environmental policies in San Diego County over the past decade.

This is a key position concerning policy for California's wildlife, parks, forests and water ways.

Ms. Scarborough is known for balancing the desires of environmentalists with the builders and developers. She pushed for Proposition M in 1998 in San Diego County to allow homes built in Carmel Valley with the caveat that the coastal mesa near Torrey Pines State Park be protected. She was also a key player in protecting 184,000-acres of wildlife habitat in San Diego County, a quid pro quo for a building project to move forward

Scarborough was an aide to former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding and a resources consultant to Assemblywoman Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego. MSCP process in July 1991. She has been an active member of the San Diego River Conservancy, and has chaired the Multiple Species Conservation Program and the Open Space Committee of Citizen's Coordinated for Century Three.
