Scarborough Goes Organic

In Scarborough, Maine, the city approved a policy that prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides on all town-owned property.

Although the policy prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides on town-owned property, there is an exception to allow the use of integrated pest management practices. The practices allow the use of synthetic pesticides in extreme circumstances to deal with invasive species that otherwise may not be treated with organic pesticides. If pesticides are applied, signs will be posted to notify the public when and where chemicals were used.
