MONTPELIER, Vt. ?EUR??,,????'??? A statewide campaign is rolling through Vermont to protect 11 places in the Green Mountain National Forest. In a 1998 survey by the U.S. Forest Service, 80 percent of state residents responding said that they want undisturbed forests left in their natural condition. Environmental groups and religious institutions are trying to add 80,000 acres to the National Wilderness Preservation System. The Vermont Wilderness Association is urging Vermont?EUR??,,????'???s Senators, Patrick Leahy and Jim Jeffords along with Congressman Bernard Sanders, to introduce a bill this year. The proposal would also create the Robert Stafford and Mooselamoo National Recreation Areas totaling 45,000 acres. Logging would be curtailed, while snowmobile riding and would be permitted.
