Santa Barbara Umbrella has made a generous donation of four of its iconic DoubleDecker umbrellas to the New York Public Library's 2015 "Outdoor Reading Room." Located on the Library Plaza at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, visitors had the opportunity to sit, read and relax in a literary oasis inspired by the famed Slim Aarons photograph, Poolside Gossip.

This summer, New Yorkers visited far away, fantastic places - right from the comfort of midtown Manhattan. The opportunity to sit, read, and relax in a literary oasis inspired by the famed Slim Aarons photograph, Poolside Gossip, which epitomized the chic poolside social scene of the 1970's, and at the center of which, was a bright yellow two-tiered, outdoor umbrella.

The New York Public Library "Outdoor Reading Room 2015: Read Everywhere!" debuted on June 23 and provided a much-needed summertime respite from the city under Bryant Park's willowy trees and four amply sized, tres chic, Santa Barbara DoubleDecker???(R)???AE???? umbrellas donated by the Company for this important initiative.

"We are pleased to have been the provider of choice for New York Public Library," said James Sheftel, president, Santa Barbara Designs. "In today's world, where people are glued to their smart phones and tablets, the art and luxury of sitting quietly and reading a real book needs to be celebrated. We are proud to help remind people of that while shading them from the scorching NYC sun."

Additionally, the famous Library lions Patience and Fortitude joined in the fun, held books in their paws throughout the Outdoor Reading Room event to remind the public to read all summer. The books they held were about 20 pounds and more than two feet tall. For more information go to www.sbumbrella.com.
