San Jose Rejects Landscape Design

The San Jose City Council paid $350,000 to the Valley Transportation Authority in 2003 for a landscape design for the approach to the airport, a design council members unanimously rejected in a March 2006 vote.

The Contra Costa Times reports the council dismissed the landscape design as ?EUR??,,????'??too much like the ivy-themed interchanges along much of the rest of the I-880 corridor,?EUR??,,????'?? and that it would be too hard to maintain and keep litter-free.

The council voted to spend $300,000 more for a second design, this time by city landscape architects.

The landscaping for the Coleman Ave. Interstate 880 interchange is only one piece of a nearly complete $81 million interchange reconstruction project.
