San Diego ASLA Chapter Celebrates 30 Years

In 1954, six San Diego LAs applied for section status under the Southern Calif. ASLA Chapter, but it wasn?EUR??,,????'???t until 1976 that the section had enough members to be recognized as an official ASLA chapter.

Stephen Halsey wrote the by-laws, prepared the budget and prepared the application forms for chapter status. Halsey was elected first chapter president and Tom Van Dyke the chapter?EUR??,,????'???s first national trustee.

The current San Diego chapter president is Chris Langdon, who in March presented Jane Minshall, one of the original six founders of the chapter, with a certification of appreciation in recognition of her early contributions to the chapter. Langdon made that presentation at a gathering of the San Diego Horticulture Society.

The society honored Minshall as Horticulturist of the Year.
