Sale of Concrete Pavers Rises Dramatically

The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) recently released the results of an annual survey which confirmed the continued growth of concrete pavers in north America in 2004.

The survey estimated total sales for north America at 710 million sf (65.9 million m2). This is divided into approximately 630 million sf (58.5 million m2) for the United States and 80 million sf (7.4 million m2) for Canada. Comparing results from a similar survey last year by ICPI, the amount sold represents a 15.4 percent increase from 2003 to 2004.

?EUR??,,????'??This dramatic growth demonstrates the continued strength of the segmental concrete pavement market in north America,?EUR??,,????'?? said Steve Berry, ICPI Chairman. ?EUR??,,????'??Especially in the residential and municipal markets.?EUR??,,????'??

The residential market was the largest, accounting for 77 percent of concrete paver sales in 2004. The second largest market was commercial at 16.5 percent, and municipal made up 6 percent. Making up the smallest portion was the industrial/port/airport market with 0.5 percent of paver sales.
Permeable interlocking concrete pavers were surveyed for the first time and made up about 1 percent of total paver production.

Industry Insights, a nationally recognized market research firm conducted the survey for ICPI. The survey report can be ordered at www.icpi.org.
