However you spell his name, the first major retrospective of the Finnish-born American architect is on a four-year international tour of Europe and the United States, following its initial presentation in Helsinki. The exhibition, ?EUR??,,????'?????<Shaping the Future,?EUR??,,????'?????<

The exhibition presents models, photographs and drawings from more than 50 projects. His iconic pedestal furniture, like the single-legged tulip chair, is included.

“He was trying to liberate modern architecture and extend it,” says Mr. Blauvelt, curator of the exhibit at the Walker. “It was more American, about individuals and comfort.”

Eero Saarinen died at age 51 in 1961. He produced such works as the 630-foot-tall, stainless steel St. Louis Gateway Arch (1948?EUR??,,????'?????<
